We have big news to share—Skylar has officially engrafted! 🎉 Her ANC counts have been above 500 for the last three days, which means her new immune system is starting to work. This is one of the most important milestones post–bone marrow transplant, and we are so relieved and grateful to have reached it.
Because of this progress, Skylar was moved out of the transplant unit and into the recovery wing. With good behavior and if she can avoid fevers, we may even be able to leave a little earlier than expected.
That said, it will still take a few more weeks before we’re able to go home. Skylar has a few important steps ahead:
-
Weaning off continuous morphine as her pain decreases
-
Taking all medications through her g-tube
-
And making sure Mom is fully trained on central line care for when we’re home
The past couple of days have been rough—Skylar has been really uncomfortable as her body works overtime to heal. But now that engraftment has occurred, we’re hoping things will start to feel a bit more manageable.
We’re so thankful for every message, prayer, and act of kindness sent our way. We’re not out of the woods yet, but today, we’re celebrating this huge milestone.
