Today, Child Life brought a swing into Skylar’s hospital room to help her get some of her wiggles out before a big dose of chemotherapy. She absolutely loved it! The joy it brought her was undeniable, and we’re so thankful they plan to bring it back regularly.
Around noon, Skylar began a dose of Cyclophosphamide. So far, she’s only been a little cranky, which we’ll happily take as a win. With this type of chemo, they also run a high volume of IV fluids to help flush the medication from her system. Because chemo can come out in the urine, it’s really important to change her diaper frequently to prevent skin irritation or chemical burns.
It’s also crucial for caregivers to wear gloves when changing diapers or cleaning up vomit—these chemicals can be harmful even through skin contact. It’s one more layer of protection in this journey, not just for Skylar, but for everyone helping care for her.
