Before Skylar’s bone marrow transplant, Dad came to visit the princess — and it meant the world. Skylar watched out the widow for Nate for 30 minutes before we saw him pull up to the hospital. She was pretty subdued from all the nausea meds at first, but she livened up quick when he picked her up.
In the middle of hospital routines and the weight of what’s ahead, we were able to sneak away for a quiet hike behind the hospital. Just a short walk, but such a powerful reset.
Sometimes, the best medicine is a deep breath, a good talk, and the steady presence of someone who’s been by your side since the beginning.
